Chennai: An unidentified gang of robbers sprayed chilli powder into the eyes of a 35-year-old man, Tamilarasan, of Tiruttani, before attacking him with a sharp weapon, leaving him with severe cut injuries near Tiruttani.Police said that Tamilarasan left his house at around 8pm on Sunday but did not return home. Early on Monday, passers-by found him lying by the roadside on Kannigapuram Road near the Tiruttani police station with multiple cut injuries and chilli powder in his eyes. On information, police rushed him to a govt hospital in Tiruttani.Police are probing whether the assault was part of an attempted robbery targeting his cash, jewellery and mobile phone, or if it was the result of prior enmity. Police said he was still in critical condition and was yet to disclose the full incident.Tamilarasan earlier worked as a mechanic at a two-wheeler dealership and had taken up a food delivery job about 20 days ago.
