Nagpur: The Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Ltd (NSSCDCL) has decided to retain its workforce until all ongoing Smart City projects are completed and formally handed over to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), bringing clarity over the future of around 20 officers and employees. The decision was taken at the board meeting of NSSCDCL held on Friday under the chairmanship of municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar. The board discussed the Urban Development Department’s govt resolution (GR) dated April 22, 2026, regarding the closure of Smart City Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) and decided that the existing staff would continue till the completion and transfer of all pending projects. The remaining works are targeted to be completed by March 2027, sources said. The board noted that while most of the 45 projects undertaken under the Smart City Mission have been completed, five projects are still under execution, and one project has been awarded but is yet to commence.Among the major pending works are infrastructure development under the Town Planning Scheme covering nearly 1,730 acres in Pardi, Bharatwada, Punapur and Bhandewadi. The rehabilitation of project-affected families is also pending, while statutory procedures for the final town planning scheme are still underway. The board also decided that NSSCDCL will continue to operate and maintain Nagpur’s integrated CCTV surveillance network, including a five-year operation and maintenance contract awarded in August 2025. Officials said uninterrupted technical manpower is necessary to ensure round-the-clock functioning of the surveillance system.Sources said the board observed that the existing team possesses specialised technical expertise and institutional knowledge developed over nearly eight years of implementing Smart City projects. Continuing the present workforce would help ensure timely completion of the remaining works and facilitate their smooth transfer to NMC.The board also discussed the legal status of NSSCDCL, a public limited company incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013, on July 1, 2016. Officials stated that the company cannot be wound up immediately and must continue until all statutory obligations, ongoing projects, and operational responsibilities are fulfilled.
