“Any attempt at hooliganism or extortion targeting industrialists in West Bengal will be dealt with an iron fist,” Adhikari said while addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Shyam Steel Group‘s integrated steel plant in Bankura’s Mejia. The project, involving a proposed investment of ₹15,000 crore, marks another major investment in the state after Lux Cozi’s ₹600 crore expansion project announced recently.
Highlighting the state government’s industry outreach, Adhikari said the Adani Group has expressed interest in developing a seaport at Dadanpatra in East Midnapore after the Tajpur deep-sea port project was abandoned by the previous government due to land constraints. “After August 15, we will inaugurate another steel plant in Durgapur,” he said.
He promised that the government would facilitate land acquisition and create an industry-friendly environment. The state would undertake all necessary infrastructure development for investors, while those investing more than ₹100 crore would be provided a single-window clearance system, he added.
