Gandhinagar: Union home minister Amit Shah participated in the pre-dawn ‘mangala aarti’ at the Jagannath temple and chief minister Bhupendra Patel performed the ‘Pahind Vidhi’ ritual on Thursday, as the 149th rath yatra rolled out from the temple premises on Thursday morning.As has been his practice for several years, Amit Shah, accompanied by his family members, visited the temple at around 4am and participated in the ‘mangala aarti’ ritual at the temple. He offered prayers. Deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi also accompanied the Union minister for the ritual.

Chief minister Bhupendra Patel performed the ‘pahind vidhi’, a symbolic ritual of sweeping the path of the three chariots of Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Balbhadra, and sister Subhadra with a golden broom, to mark commencement of the rath yatra.The three chariots then rolled out of the temple premises, pulled by members of the Khalasi community in keeping with the centuries-old tradition.An official statement said that later in the day, the CM monitored the progress of the rath yatra in Ahmedabad along with top officials, on the CM dashboard.. He also flagged off a rath yatra from the Jagannath temple in Adalaj.
