Ahmedabad: The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) has established the Mattu Centre for Research in Security Pricing and Corporate Finance, a new Centre of Excellence aimed at strengthening finance research and developing India-specific research infrastructure for capital markets.
The centre will focus on research in asset pricing, corporate finance, corporate governance and financial economics, while building comprehensive financial databases to support empirical research on Indian capital markets. It also seeks to foster collaboration among academia, industry, regulators and policymakers to address emerging challenges in the country’s financial ecosystem.
The initiative has been established through philanthropic support from Ravi Mattu, an IIMA alumnus (PGP 1979) and former Managing Director and Global Head of Analytics at Pacific Investment Management Co. (PIMCO).
IIMA Director Professor Bharat Bhasker said the centre would help address structural challenges in India’s financial markets by creating robust India-specific databases and strengthening research capabilities. He added that it would nurture future researchers, practitioners and regulators while building stronger analytical foundations for the country’s financial ecosystem.
According to Ravi Mattu, the centre will facilitate collaborative research between Indian and US faculty in finance, promote dialogue with Indian regulators, support early-career researchers and lead the development of a comprehensive securities price database.
The centre will organise seminars, conferences, workshops and distinguished lectures to encourage knowledge exchange among researchers, industry leaders and policymakers. It will undertake research across areas including investments, market microstructure, corporate finance and governance, while supporting high-quality academic research that addresses practical challenges faced by businesses, investors and regulators.
The governing council of the centre will be chaired by Professor Bharat Bhasker and include Professors Joshy Jacob and Ellapulli Vasudevan as co-chairpersons, along with Ravi Mattu, former IIM Bangalore faculty member Professor R. Narayanaswamy, New York University Stern School of Business Associate Professor Vaidyanathan Venkateswaran, and Rajan Raju, Director of Invespar Pte. Ltd.
