Bokaro: A 45-year-old woman and her 14-year-old son were buried alive after an under-construction balcony of their house collapsed at Salaiya village in Giridih district on Sunday, police said. A mason working at the site was critically injured. The deceased were identified as Sunita Devi and her son, Rajkumar Yadav.Devi’s husband, Latu Yadav, said his wife and son were inspecting the ongoing construction and standing near the balcony while guiding mason Pradeep Yadav. Pradeep climbed onto the balcony to begin work. Within moments, the structure gave way, and the entire slab collapsed. The debris fell on Sunita and Rajkumar, trapping them underneath. Pradeep also fell with the collapsed structure.Villagers rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. After prolonged efforts, the mother-son duo was pulled out from the debris, but they died. Pradeep was shifted to a hospital in Jamua, where he is undergoing treatment. He suffered injuries to his hands, legs and other parts.Heroidih police reached the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them for postmortem examination. “An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the collapse. Preliminary investigation suggests structural weakness or technical flaws in the construction, though the actual reason will be known after the probe,” said an officer of Heroidih police station.
