Prayagraj: Sultry weather conditions were back to torment citizens of Sangam city on Sunday, further extending the hot and humid conditions prevailing for the past three days.Although the water level of twin rivers – Ganga and Yamuna – have marginally increased, the citizens of Prayagraj are waiting for heavy rainfall. The farmers in Prayagraj and adjoining Pratapgarh and Kaushambi region are waiting for rains to plough paddy crops. Weather experts, however, said, “After reaching southwestern Uttar Pradesh as a well-marked low-pressure area—originating from a depression in the Bay of Bengal—and subsequently moving towards eastern UP while gradually weakening, this system brought widespread rainfall and spells of heavy to very heavy rain to the state over the past few days. However, as the low-pressure area weakens into a cyclonic circulation over eastern UP and the monsoon trough shifts north of its normal position, weather activity in other parts of the state (outside Purvanchal) will become extremely limited, leading to a rise in temperatures, yet light to moderate rainfall—with isolated heavy spells—is likely to continue in Eastern UP for the next 3–4 days.”Satellite images showed majority of parts of the country without or minimal cloud cover, with regions receiving little or no rainfall. The deficiency is noticeable because it comes just days after the southwest monsoon covered the entire country. The city on July 10 received 3mm rainfall while it got 18.9 mm rainfall on July 9. The status of rainfall on July 8 and 7 stood 02 and 3.3 mm respectively.
