Ahmedabad: A team from the Abhayam 181 women’s helpline on Friday assisted a woman experiencing mental health issues in obtaining medical care after she repeatedly refused help, prompting her family to contact the helpline.“The woman’s husband is a state govt employee. The couple has a child with mental health issues. Around the same time, the woman also lost her mother. These two traumatic events triggered her mental health problems. The couple had also begun the IVF process in the hope of having a second child,” a counsellor said.According to counsellors, the woman was anxious about the possibility of her second child facing similar health challenges.“The woman was under severe stress and was experiencing anxiety attacks, mood swings and episodes of extreme behaviour. However, she was unwilling to consult a doctor. A helpline team visited her, explained the importance of seeking professional support, and assured her that medical intervention would aid her recovery. She eventually agreed to seek treatment and has since begun the process,” the counsellor said.
