Bhubaneswar: In a daring heist caught on CCTV, four miscreants tried to steal cash from an ATM by uprooting the machine and dragging it away with the help of an SUV in Balasore district, early on Saturday.The incident took place near Tudigadia Chowk around 2 am. CCTV footage showed a black SUV arriving at the ATM kiosk, following which three persons stepped out and tried to pull out the machine. After several attempts, the suspects managed to uproot the ATM, tie it to the vehicle with a rope and drag it away from the kiosk.Police said the ATM was later found abandoned at a secluded location. While the gang succeeded in taking away the machine, they were unable to break it open and steal the cash stored inside.“The CCTV footage shows three miscreants getting down from the vehicle and making repeated attempts to drag away the ATM. They fled with the machine but failed to break into it,” said John Pattnaik, IIC, Khaira police station.Police have launched an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the suspects and trace the vehicle used in the crime. “We are analysing all available evidence and have intensified efforts to track down the accused,” Pattnaik said.
