COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore district police seized around 700 gram of undocumented gold from a passenger on a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus at the Walayar check post on Friday. According to police, the seizure was made during a routine vehicle check at the Walayar check post under the K G Chavadi police station. Police intercepted a KSRTC bus heading to Coimbatore from Palakkad and carried out an inspection. They found three melted gold bars and two gold bangles in the possession of A Mohammed, 65, of Kottupurathu near Varavoor in Thrissur district of Kerala. The gold bars and bangles, weighing around 700 gram, were wrapped in a white cover and kept in his pocket. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Mohammed’s son Najmudeen, 35, runs a small gold smithery in Thrissur. The gold items were old ornaments melted at the workshop. As Mohammed failed to produce valid documents for transporting gold items, police seized them and handed them over to income tax department inspector Sathyaraj for necessary action.
