Pune: A farmer (38) from Junnar taluka was stabbed to death on Wednesday morning by a man, an alleged stalker of the former’s wife.The suspect, a resident of Ahilyanagar district, attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison after the alleged killing.The farmer’s wife has lodged a complaint against him with the Ale Phata police. The suspect is undergoing treatment at a hospital. He has been booked under Sections 103 (murder) and 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Explaining the chain of events, an officer from the Ale Phata police said the suspect had contacted the complainant through a social media platform about a year ago. He had allegedly been stalking and blackmailing her ever since. The woman and her husband had lodged an extortion complaint against him last year.“In Feb, the woman lodged a sexual harassment complaint against him. He was arrested by the Ale Phata police at the time and then released about a month ago,” the officer said. After being released from jail, he had attacked the couple a month ago.On Wednesday, the officer said, the complainant and her husband were working in their cattle shed around 6am. The farmer stepped out to get fodder for their cattle.“The complainant told us that she heard her husband screaming. She ran outside. She saw the suspect was stabbing her husband in the stomach. When she tried to stop him, he attempted to stab her as well,” the officer said.He said the woman managed to dodge the attack and pushed the suspect away before running towards her house. The suspect chased her, but fled after noticing her relatives nearby.“The victim suffered stab wounds to his stomach, chest and back. He was taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” the officer said.The officer said that after hearing the commotion, neighbours rushed to the farmer’s house and chased the suspect, but in vain. He had consumed poison before they could catch him.
