KOLKATA: Heavy rain lashed parts of West Bengal on Friday as IMD has forecast more showers across the state over the next few days.Cooch Behar recorded the state’s highest rainfall at 143 mm in the 24 hours ending Friday morning.Commuters in Kolkata, including schoolchildren and office-goers, struggled to navigate rain-soaked roads as showers continued through the morning. Waterlogging slowed traffic in several parts of the city, including the IT hub of Sector V in Salt Lake.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dum Dum, home to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, recorded south Bengal’s highest rainfall at 96 mm. Elsewhere, Alipurduar received 112 mm of rain, followed by Barrackpore (68 mm), Haldia (64 mm), Diamond Harbour (63 mm) and Salt Lake (55 mm).The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall across south Bengal till July 13 and north Bengal till July 15. It has also predicted thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 30–40 kmph in Kolkata over the next few days.
