“Have you ever gone on a date just for the food? Lied about your age on a dating app? Or given a piggyback ride to a stranger for a dare?” Delhiites answered all these icebreaker questions and let go of inhibitions with dares at Delhi Times Life. Styled Club’s Speed Dating last weekend. Set against the lush green Hauz Khas Fort and the glistening lake, the social mixer let singles make friends and find dates without the awkward silence, with hopes of starting their love story. What is Life. Lighthearted conversations and activities helped break the ice. The scenic backdrop of Hauz Khas set the mood
Icebreakers, games and debatesThe idea of Speed Dating was to let participants meet multiple people at once, judge vibes in-person, and put apps aside. The cafe buzzed with anticipation for the event to kick off. After brief introductions, the host split participants into smaller groups, making it easier to strike up conversations before going around the venue to meet new people. An interactive round of ‘Yes, No or Maybe’ questions got everyone talking – from lively debates over sharing phone passcodes to what’s appropriate on a first date. As the conversations flowed, the initial hesitation gave way to laughter and animated discussions.
Dare bingo turned the event into a playful space, encouraging participants to bond through challenges like planks, slow dances, paper-ring proposals, and piggyback rides
‘For introverts, the dares made interaction easier’For Gouri Bagri, 26, an MBA student originally from Haryana, the evening was about finding connections in the city. “I’m not sure if I found a date here, but I met a lot of interesting people and exchanged numbers. For an introvert like me, the dares and questions made it easy to interact with others and helped me get over my fears of talking to strangers. It felt like a safe space, and hopefully I’ll make some good friends!” she told us after the session.Yuvraj, 24, shared, “Delhi always lives up to the hype. The people were nice, and the host did really well to help us talk to each other. I did end up getting a date, so it was a very successful outing for me! I’d love to keep going to such interactive sessions.”
Speed dating reminds us that real connections begin with genuine conversations in-person, not endless scrolling on our screens

Conversations and connections continued beyond the dateThe room’s atmosphere transformed over the two-hour session. Long after the formal agenda ended, participants lingered to exchange contacts and form groups, reluctant to leave. While not everyone walked away with a date, many left with new friendships, meaningful conversations and a reminder that sometimes the best connections begin when you put your phone away.
