The matter came to light through a report that appeared on social media on July 2 after which BKTC swung into action. BKTC is a statutory body which manages the Badrinath temple and other shrines in Uttarakhand. FIR has been registered under sections 306 and 316(5) (criminal breach of trust) at the Badrinath police station.
On Tuesday, the Uttarakhand government also constituted its own three-member probe committee, headed by Garhwal divisional commissioner. It will submit its findings to the state government within 15 days, according to officials.
