Nagpur: As Special Intensive Revision (SIR) gathers pace, rural Nagpur has emerged as the frontrunner while urban areas continue to pose the bigger challenge owing to frequent migration and changing addresses. To bridge the gap, the district administration has decided to strengthen coordination between the election machinery and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), particularly its property tax department, to help Booth Level Officers (BLOs) better locate electors across the city. The decision was taken at a review meeting convened on Monday, attended by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AROs), BLOs and senior election officials.Senior officials told TOI that while verification in rural areas has progressed steadily, city areas have proved more challenging because of rented accommodations, apartment complexes and frequent relocation of residents. Unlike villages, where households are relatively easier to identify, urban neighbourhoods require greater field-level coordination to trace electors and complete verification within the stipulated timeline.Deputy district election officer Rachna Indurkar said the administration has strengthened coordination with the NMC’s property tax department in urban areas, as its field staff are well acquainted with local neighbourhoods and households. “The exercise is lagging behind in urban area. Property tax officials have a better understanding of local residential patterns, which will help BLOs identify households more efficiently compared to BLOs who are mostly teachers,” she said.Indurkar urged citizens to cooperate with BLOs and keep required documents ready during house visits between June 30-July 29. Electors can either hand over completed Enumeration Form to the visiting BLO or submit it online: voters.eci.gov.in, where an acknowledgement will be generated upon submission.
