Nagpur: Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani-Wakhare has proposed restricting vehicular movement on the Amrai stretch near the airport at night to curb littering, drinking, and other anti-social activities . The implementation hinges on approval from the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), which has jurisdiction over the road.Dani-Wakhare, who held a review meeting, noted that a similar night-time restriction existed earlier. “Most anti-social elements gather during the night. We will examine all possibilities to enforce the 10pm to 8am restriction,” she said. The stretch serves as an important access route to the rear side of the airport and is frequently used by motorists as a short cut.During the meeting, MADC officials informed the committee that they face manpower constraints as their personnel are also responsible for monitoring the extensive Mihan area. Dani-Wakhare directed that security guards must be deployed at all three entry points to the Amrai stretch, irrespective of staffing limitations.Municipal commissioner Vipin Itankar, who also serves as MADC chairman, could not be contacted for comment.Lokesh Thota, team lead of Vrukshit Foundation, welcomed the proposal but questioned its effectiveness. “The restriction existed earlier as well. There are multiple other entry points through which miscreants can enter. However, with the monsoon setting in, we expect such activities to reduce for now. This move will help check littering on the road by commuters,” he said.Sources in the traffic police said they have not yet received any official communication regarding the proposed nighttime restriction.
