Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant has said that before the inauguration of the new six-lane Porvorim elevated corridor, it will be kept open for the public to walk on and click photographs, as was done with the Atal Setu project and the new Zuari bridge.He said the bridge is expected to be inaugurated in Sep and will be kept open two days before its inauguration.“Somewhere in the month of Sep, we will inaugurate the new project under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari, after deciding the date with them. But I want to inform the public that before its inauguration, we will keep the flyover open to the public to walk on it, so they can walk over it, see it for themselves, click photographs. Everyone should experience the kind of the flyover we have constructed,” said Sawant, after the last final span of the elevated corridor was lifted on Saturday.This flyover is very important link not just for Goans and Porvorim residents but important in the project of linking five states through expressways, the CM said.Tourism minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said that residents of his constituency are looking forward to relief from traffic congestion and reduced road accidents following the opening of the six-lane corridor.Earlier this year, the contractor for the six-lane elevated corridor project in Porvorim, RRSM Infra, got a six-month extension from April to Oct 2026 for completion of the work.The Rs 450 crore project is funded by the Union highways ministry.Work on the six-lane elevated corridor began in Sep 2024, within the first four months, 50% of the work had been completed. The contractor was aiming for completion of the project by Dec 2025, which was four months ahead of the April 2026 schedule. However, issues over traffic diversion delayed the works.RRSM Infra will be responsible for maintenance of the elevated highway for a 10-year period.
