Bengaluru: A 25-year-old woman from the city has filed a rape complaint with Talaghattapura police against one of the revellers celebrating her birthday at her friend’s house.According to the survivor, she was raped after being given a soft drink mixed with sleeping pills. The alleged incident took place on the night of June 30.Based on her complaint, police have arrested the main suspect, Amaresh J, a private firm employee. Other suspects — Somashekhar, Ramappa, Jagadish, and Pradeep — have also been arrested on charges of abetting the crime and not helping the woman.According to the woman, Somashekhar called on June 30 evening, asking her to come near a hotel in Talaghattapura. “Somashekhar, who has known me for some time, said we’d celebrate my birthday, which was a couple of days earlier. When I got down near the hotel, Amaresh and others were waiting for me in a car. Somashekhar told me they were his friends and asked me to board the car and come to his house. There, we had dinner and I was given the soft drink. After I fell unconscious, I was raped,” she said.According to police, the survivor came out of the house around 1am, called the police control room and explained what had happened. “A Hoysala vehicle reached the place. We immediately arrested Amaresh after the woman identified him,” a police officer said.
