BHUBANESWAR: A woman police officer was found hanging in her official quarters in Odisha’s Cuttack on Saturday, a senior police officer said.The deceased, identified as Beauty Mohanty, was serving as the inspector-in-charge of Chauliaganj Police Station in Cuttack.After completing her duty on Friday night, Beauty Mohanty returned to her official residence.Her body was found in her residential quarters on Saturday morning and was sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for a post-mortem examination, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack police commissioner S Dev Datta Singh said.Her domestic help repeatedly called her for dinner on Friday night, but she did not answer the phone. When she did not come out of her room on Saturday morning, she was checked on and found hanging from the ceiling, Singh told news agency PTI.“It was a very saddening incident for all of us in the commissionorate of police. She was physically and mentally a very strong woman officer. She never shared about her problems with us,” he said.Preliminary investigation indicates it was a case of suicide, he said, adding that further investigation is underway to determine the cause.(With agency inputs)
