Ludhiana: An alleged dowry seeker was arrested on Friday after his wife of less than four years was discovered dead on her bed at Shimlapuri, with a dupatta wrapped around her neck.Chetna, the victim, was 30. The first-information report (FIR) names her husband, Harjinder Singh, a contract employee with the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), as well as her mother-in-law and two sisters-in-law.Chetna’s mother, Sunita Rani, told investigators her daughter had faced persistent harassment from her in-laws, who demanded money and household goods the family could not afford. Snthey had notified her of Chetna’s death late on July 1 and arrived to find her body. She alleges the family strangled Chetna over the unmet dowry demands.Assistant Sub-Inspector Salwinder Pal said investigators are waiting on autopsy results to determine the official cause of death.“It is yet to be ascertained if the woman hanged herself or if she was strangled,” Pal said.
