GURGAON: A man was critically injured after being chased and run over by a Scorpio in Dhauj on the Sirohi-Bijopur Road, with police saying the accused believed he had tipped off a crime investigation agency (CIA) team about the whereabouts of three men wanted in a theft case.A video of the incident, which surfaced on social media, shows the SUV chasing the victim before ramming into him and crashing through the boundary wall of a house. The impact pinned the victim between the vehicle and the wall, bringing down part of the structure before the SUV came to a halt. The victim, Saddiq alias Shahbaz, a resident of Sirohi village, is undergoing treatment in the ICU. While Tahseem, who was driving the Scorpio at the time, was arrested, investigators are searching for the others. The SUV has been seized. It was not immediately clear how many people were inside the vehicle but one person is seen getting out of it and fleeing.According to police, the trouble began after a Yamunanagar CIA team reached Dhauj around 2pm to arrest Jishan, Nafis and Aslam in a theft case. The three fled before police got to them. Investigators suspect the accused believed Shahbaz had tipped off the CIA team, and the men returned to the village that evening after learning police had left.An altercation then broke out between Shahbaz and Wasim. Wasim informed his nephew Tahseem and his brothers, who arrived at the spot in the Scorpio and on motorcycles along with Aslam and other associates.A clash followed between the two sides, during which Shahbaz’s family pelted stones at the Scorpio, damaging it. As Shahbaz tried to flee, Tahseem allegedly accelerated the Scorpio and rammed into him, police said. Tahseem himself was not among those named in the theft case.Villagers who gathered at the scene assaulted the Scorpio’s occupants; the accused fled on foot, abandoning the vehicle, which police later recovered.Dhauj police registered a case under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on a complaint by the victim’s brother, Shahar Yaad, before the probe was transferred to the crime branch, Sector 56.Joint teams of the crime branch and Dhauj police arrested Tahseem, who will be produced in a city court on Thursday for custodial remand. Police are analysing the video, recording eyewitness statements, and probing the role of each accused in the attack that followed the CIA team’s visit to Dhauj.
