Gurgaon: One week after event manager Sarthak Mattoo died in a hit-and-run at Rajokri flyover on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, his parents on Thursday released an emotional video appealing to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and the Delhi police commissioner to intervene in the investigation, which they claimed was slow and “riddled with errors”.Two days before his 34th birthday, Sarthak was travelling from Gurgaon to his office in Noida on a motorcycle when a Thar hit him and ran him over around 6.30am on June 25. The car’s occupants left Sarthak bleeding on the roadside.Sarthak died by the time he could be taken to hospital. In the clip, Sarthak’s father Surender Mattoo says those who ‘killed his son are roaming free” despite being identified. He added that there was a 50-hour delay in collecting blood samples from the accused. “How will they ever find out if the men had consumed alcohol?” Surender said.He also accused the investigators of not conveying to them developments taking place during the probe and alleged all their questions were met with empty words of consolation. “We do not even know whether the culprits have been arrested,” Surender said. “They are roaming free, while we are grieving. They left my son on the roadside to die.”The Mattoos said their house in Kashmir was burnt down and his parents died of grief yet they managed to move on. He appealed to PM Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and the Delhi authorities to ensure the accused face punishment so that his son gets justice.Police had earlier said the Thar had a Karnataka number plate and belonged to a Bengaluru-based private company. It was leased to Sagar Saha (29). Saha said his friend Apurv Singh was driving the car while he was in the passenger seat when the hit-and-run took place.Singh, a software tester, was arrested from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh but is out on bail. Saha was taken in for questioning and then let go.On the allegations of delay in collecting evidence, a senior police officer denied the claims and said the medical examination was carried out immediately after the accused was caught. He said the test results are awaited and will confirm whether the accused were driving under the influence of alcohol.
