BENGALURU: When an armed gang of assailants hacked rowdysheeter and murder suspect Rajubhai to death in public at JP Nagar main road last Saturday evening, two motorists in khaki were seen passing the scene. A video showing the same went viral on social media, netizens questioning whether they were police and, if yes, why did they not react.However, senior police officers said they were homeguards riding back to Sarakki home from duty. “The homeguards are unarmed and are never trained to face such situations. They are civilians working for police department on a contract basis. However, these homeguards did not pass silently as everyone thinks. They stopped a little ahead, shouted at the top of their voice to threaten the attackers and dialled police control room 112,” a senior police officer said.Further, investigating police officer say the homeguards will be the eyewitnesses to the killing. “The two have made a detailed statement on the killing. They have seen the attackers, including the person who repeatedly hacked Raju on the neck and face. The statements by the homeguards and their work of identifying the attackers will play a vital role in the case,” he said.Four men were arrested in connection with rowdy murder: City police arrested four men on charges of hacking rowdy-sheeter Raju alias Rajubhai to death last Saturday. The killing was the result of an old rivalry, police said. Accused are identified as Santosh, Marimuttu, Aadi and Prabhu. More arrests are likely to made, an investigating officer said.A woman sub-inspector from JP Nagar police station fired at a murder accused in self-defence when the latter attacked police personnel in Talaghattapura Wednesday afternoon.|SI Savinaya fired on the left knee of Santosh Kumar, accused of leading the gang that hacked rowdy Rajubhai, alias Raju, on JP Nagar main road last week. Santosh has been shifted to hospital and is recuperating.Police had earlier arrested Santosh and his three accomplices for the murder. “They had hidden the machete and other weapons used in the crime in bushes. The police team took Santosh to the spot to recover them. On reaching there, Santosh took a stone and attacked the personnel. Savinaya fired two rounds in the air to warn the rowdy. However, he continued to attack, forcing police to open fire,” a senior officer said.
