Pune: A 17-year-old boy hit four vehicles with a tempo he was driving to escape police interception on the Pune-Solapur highway in Vaiduwadi on Tuesday evening.The Wanowrie police registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the boy. The police also booked the vehicle owner for letting a minor drive.No one was injured in the incident. A traffic police constable managed to escape unhurt. The vehicle was stopped after the traffic police personnel from the Wanowrie traffic division chased it and intercepted it near the Number 15 signal in Hadapsar.The incident was recorded by CCTV cameras and dash cameras of some vehicles.Deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Sandip Bhajibhakare told TOI, “During a special enforcement drive against vehicles with tinted glass and fancy registration numbers, the traffic police attempted to stop a tempo after receiving a wireless message from the Wanawadi traffic division that the vehicle had ignored police signals and was being driven rashly.”“Our team tried to intercept the tempo at Vaiduwadi, but the driver failed to stop and continued driving rashly. The personnel chased the vehicle and finally intercepted it at Hadapsar. The tempo had already hit four vehicles before being intercepted,” he said, adding that the four damaged vehicles also left the spot.“Some people from the public beat up the tempo driver. Police personnel intervened and took him to the Hadapsar police station. The complaint was then forwarded to the Wanowrie police station for further probe,” he said.“The tempo is owned by a man from Kedgaon on the Pune-Solapur highway,” he said.
