Surat: A quiet Monday afternoon in Pandesara turned into alarm as three men allegedly used the pretext of a parcel delivery to barge into a woman’s home and attack her. Police are probing the motive for the assault, as the accused did not steal anything.According to the complaint, the 37-year-old woman was home as her husband was away on a business trip and her son was at school. At 2.30pm, while she was having tea, the doorbell rang.She opened the main door but kept the safety door closed. A man at the door claimed he had come to deliver a parcel. The woman said she had not ordered any parcel. The man insisted that the address matched and asked her to inspect the package.As soon as she opened the safety door, the accused pushed his way into the house. As she began shouting, he covered her mouth with his hand. He then allegedly pulled out an iron rod and tried to strike her, but the blow landed on her hand as she resisted.Moments later, two more men entered. One was carrying a knife. The woman grabbed the hand holding the weapon and continued shouting for help.Fearing that neighbours would gather, the three accused fled. Before leaving, they told the victim, “Fir milte hai.”Neighbours rushed to the woman’s aid after hearing her cries, but the accused had escaped.Pandesara police registered a case and launched an investigation.Pandesara police inspector K D Jadeja said, “We have accessed the CCTV footage and are investigating. We have asked the victim if she knows any of the accused. We are also investigating whether the victim or any member of her family has enmity with anyone.“The accused did not try to steal anything. Therefore, we are examining the case from all angles and expect to nab the accused in a couple of days.”Police are analysing CCTV footage and are questioning people connected to the victim as part of the investigation.
