T’puram: Govt is considering a plan to establish MVD seva kendras across Kerala on the lines of passport seva kendras to make motor vehicles department (MVD) services faster, transparent and easily accessible to the public, said transport minister CP John. He said the transport commissioner’s proposal aims to streamline MVD service delivery through dedicated service centres. The project will follow a PPP model or will be integrated with existing Akshaya and common service centres.Once operational, MVD seva kendras will provide services including driving licence applications and renewals, vehicle registration, payment of vehicle tax, permit-related services and e-challan assistance. The centres will also provide public grievance support and digital assistance to help citizens access online services efficiently.John said the initiative aims to curb the exploitation of applicants by middlemen who take advantage of the complexities involved in online applications. As part of these efforts, MVD has introduced support mechanisms under its direct supervision, he said.At present, e-seva centres operating with Kudumbashree’s support are functioning in 47 regional transport offices (RTOs) and sub-RTOs in state. These centres primarily assist the public in preparing online applications and completing e-payments for various MVD services, he said, adding that govt is implementing comprehensive modernization measures in KSRTC and introducing key reforms in MVD.
