Mandya: The BJP leaders on Tuesday demanded a judicial inquiry by a central agency into the alleged Rs 5,000-crore irregularity in the state govt’s Gruha Lakshmi scheme, accusing Congress govt of large-scale financial mismanagement.Speaking to reporters, BJP state spokesperson Ashok Gowda alleged that instead of safeguarding the interests of the beneficiaries, Congress govt was misusing public funds allocated under the flagship welfare scheme. Referring to a question raised by MLA Mahesh Tenginakai in the Legislative Assembly, Gowda said the govt had claimed that Rs 2,000 was being credited regularly into the accounts of eligible women beneficiaries. However, he alleged that the comptroller and auditor general (CAG) had highlighted financial irregularities amounting to nearly Rs 5,000 crore in the implementation of the scheme.Gowda further claimed that funds meant for 19,020 beneficiaries were allegedly being deposited into a single bank account. He also alleged that over 23,000 ‘ghost beneficiaries’ had been created without proper documentation, while the bank account details of over 10 lakh beneficiaries had reportedly been altered multiple times.
