Bhubaneswar: Central parts of Odisha, starting from coastal to interior, are expected to get normal to above normal monsoon rainfall in July, said director-general of meteorology at the IMD, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, on Tuesday.The remaining parts of the state will receive below normal rainfall, Mohapatra told TOI after release of monsoon forecast for July at national-level. He said Odisha received 47% deficit rainfall in June.Such forecast came with IMD predicting widespread rainfall in the state in next five-six days under the influence of a low-pressure area, likely to form over the Bay of Bengal on July 3. There are also indications that the system would intensify further.IMD has issued orange and yellow warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for some districts during the period. The districts expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall under orange warning during the period include – Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj. Similarly, yellow warning of heavy rainfall would continue in some districts like Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Deogarh, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur.Manorama Mohanty, the regional head of IMD in the city, said the state would receive a good rainfall fall this week. On Tuesday, light to moderate rainfall continued at some places, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Nayagarh recorded highest 23 mm rainfall during the day, said IMD rainfall report in the evening. The city recorded 11 mm rainfall while Cuttack received 4.8 mm rainfall during the day.Many places in the also received light to moderate rainfall in the last 24 hours. Baripada in Mayurbhanj district recorded highest 135 rainfall during the period, IMD rainfall report in the morning said.
