Panaji: A 33-year-old Ugandan national was detained by the foreigners regional registration office (FRRO), Goa, on Monday for allegedly overstaying in India for nearly three years. Police said she arrived in Goa two months ago.FRRO officials said the woman was approached by agents who promised her a job in India and bore the cost of her air ticket and visa. After arriving in Mumbai, she continued to stay there beyond the permitted period.Two months ago, she travelled to Goa, where FRRO officials detained her. Officials said the woman comes from a poor background and was in urgent need of employment, making her vulnerable to the agents’ promises.FRRO officials also said the woman who had brought her to Mumbai was later deported from the city.
