Kanpur: The three-day statutory inspection of Kanpur Metro’s newly constructed Balance Section between Kanpur Central and Naubasta concluded on Monday, bringing the corridor a step closer to the start of passenger services.The commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), Nilabhra Sengupta, and his five-member team carried out detailed technical inspections and reviewed the project’s safety and operational readiness before holding a final review meeting with senior Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) officials.During the inspection, the CMRS team examined the up and down lines using a motor trolley, conducted integrated testing across the entire IIT to Naubasta Corridor 1, and evaluated signalling, collision avoidance, braking, speed and other critical safety systems. Passenger safety arrangements at all seven newly built stations were also assessed.UPMRC has completed installation of advanced security infrastructure at the two underground stations, Jhakarkati and Transport Nagar, and five elevated stations, Baradevi, Kidwai Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Bauddh Nagar and Naubasta.The stations are equipped with X ray baggage scanners, door frame and hand held metal detectors, while CCTV cameras with video analytics provide round the clock surveillance through station control rooms, the operation control centre and the security control room. security personnel from the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force and a private agency have also been deployed.UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar said the successful inspection marked a major milestone for the project, with all technical and safety tests completed successfully.He added that station design prioritises passenger safety, with comprehensive CCTV coverage, transparent layouts and special emphasis on the security and convenience of women passengers.The CMRS report is expected later this week.
