Rajkot: Two persons were rescued after a fire broke out in an air-conditioner unit on the first floor of a private hospital in Bhuj, Kutch, on Monday morning. No injuries or casualties were reported.The incident was reported around 9.15am at Viable Hospital on Hospital Road in Bhuj.The Bhuj fire brigade reached the hospital with a 2,200-litre fire engine and started operations to extinguish the flames and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the hospital. The operation was completed in about 15 minutes.Bhuj fire officer Sachin Parmar said hospital staff tried to douse the fire using the extinguishers available on the premises before the fire brigade arrived.“However, the flames spread to the patient’s bed and mattress, generating dense smoke that made it difficult even to stand inside the room,” Parmar said.He added that a general ward was located opposite the affected room, where two patients were undergoing treatment at the time. As a precautionary measure, firefighters shifted them safely to the ground floor before commencing operations.Officials said the prompt response of the hospital staff and the fire brigade helped prevent the blaze from spreading further and averted any major damage or casualties.The exact cause of the fire has not yet been ascertained and will be determined after further investigation, fire officials said.
