Dumka: A police team was allegedly attacked and a vehicle damaged when they went to rescue seven persons held hostage over a money dispute at Ajul Tola in Sahibganj district late on Sunday.Police said the seven were confined by villagers after a dispute linked to a financial transaction. A youth from Paschimi Pranpur, who runs a coconut business in Mumbai, went to Ajul Tola with others to recover dues from a local. The argument escalated, after which the seven men from Pranpur were allegedly detained and assaulted.Family members of the victims lodged a complaint with Radhanagar police, prompting a team to reach the village around midnight. However, the officers faced resistance from a large group of villagers, who allegedly assaulted them and vandalised the police vehicle.After getting information, SDPO Vimlesh Tripathi, inspector Rajeev Ranjan and teams from Taljhari, Rajmahal and Teen Pahar police stations rushed to the spot. All seven hostages were rescued and brought to the police station.“A case has been registered against 20 people and 40-50 unidentified individuals for attacking police personnel, damaging a govt vehicle and obstructing govt work. Investigation is underway,” said officer in charge of Radhanagar police station, Amar Kumar Minz.
