New Delhi: In a major joint enforcement drive against illegal construction debris dumping, Delhi Traffic Police’s eastern range and east district police intercepted and impounded 20 tractors during a late-night crackdown. The operation was launched following persistent complaints about tractors illegally transporting and dumping construction debris on the busy stretch at night. Police said the activity had become a recurring problem, posing risks to commuters and damaging public infrastructure.During the drive, officials booked all 20 tractors under Sections 5 and 15 of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, along with relevant provisions of Motor Vehicles Act. The vehicles were impounded for further legal action.Officials said illegal dumping of construction waste on public roads is a serious violation, as it obstructs traffic, compromises road safety, damages roads and other civic infrastructure, and adversely affects the environment. Such activities also create hazards for motorists, particularly at night, when debris left on carriageways can lead to accidents.Officials said the crackdown is part of a sustained campaign to curb illegal dumping and enforce environmental and traffic regulations across the capital. Similar joint operations will be intensified at identified vulnerable locations where such violations are frequently reported.Delhi Traffic Police and east district police said they are committed to ensuring that public roads remain safe, clean and free of encroachments and obstructions. They warned that strict legal action would continue against anyone found transporting or dumping construction debris illegally.Police also appealed to transporters and contractors to dispose of construction waste only at authorised sites and comply with environmental and traffic regulations, warning that violators would face stringent action without exception.
