Chennai: The death toll in the ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing unit in Tiruvallur district rose to 16 on Saturday after another worker succumbed to injuries, according to the health department. The latest victim was identified as Kabita Juanga from Kendujhar district in Odisha.The leak, which occurred on June 21, affected 83 workers. So far, 41 have been discharged from hospitals, while 26 remain under treatment and medical observation. Among them, one patient is on ventilator support, nine are receiving oxygen through nasal support, and 16 are in stable condition. Of the 26 patients, 25 are women and one is a man.Most of the deceased were migrant workers from Odisha, while others were from Assam and Jharkhand. The bodies of 12 victims have been airlifted to Odisha and two to Assam. The remaining two bodies will be transported after legal formalities are completed.
