Panchkula: In a major administrative overhaul, the Haryana govt is set to transfer 11 sectors currently managed by the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to the Panchkula municipal corporation (MC). The move aims to eliminate decades of overlapping jurisdictional confusion and unify governance under a single civic authority.Panchkula Mayor Sham Lal Bansal announced on Saturday that chief minister Nayab Singh Saini has agreed in principle to the consolidation plan. Saini has directed that all independent public departments functioning inside municipal limits be brought entirely under the MC’s umbrella to establish clear accountability.Historically, Panchkula’s local maintenance has been fragmented among the MC, HSVP, Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA), and the irrigation department. This divided framework frequently left residents confused over which agency handled local roads, parks, drainage networks, and street lighting.“People approach the municipal corporation for every civic issue, but many services are still controlled by different departments. Once all agencies are brought under one roof, there will be clear accountability and faster resolution of public grievances,” Bansal said. The strategic administrative shift is expected to streamline local development across Panchkula’s 20 municipal wards. As part of this rollout, the MC will officially absorb the maintenance duties of Sector 5 within the next two months. Currently, the city’s water supply and sewage networks, alongside Sectors 2, 3, 5, 6, 23, 24, 27, 28, 31, 32, and Mansa Devi Complex (MDC) Sectors 5B, 5C, and 7, remain under HSVP control pending final formal state orders. To increase civic transparency alongside this integration, the mayor announced that the civic body will launch weekly public grievance darbars every Sunday across alternating wards. Furthermore, every municipal department has been instructed to file project progress reports on active tenders and ongoing construction work every fortnight.
