Chennai: A man who smuggled narcotic drugs was arrested by Chennai city police from a hideout in Maharashtra. Narcotics, gold jewellery, vehicles, and other incriminating materials were seized. On June 20, police intercepted a car during a vehicle check near the Jothi Venkatachalam Street and Prathapet Road junction in Vepery, and arrested three people — Sangeetha, 40, Chiranjeevi, 29, and John, 35 — for transporting narcotics. Police seized 26.35g of methamphetamine, two LSD stamps, 5.59g of MDMA tablets, 15 ATM cards, three mobile phones and the car used in the offence. They were remanded in judicial custody. Sangeetha’s husband, Shanmugam, 37, was found procuring methamphetamine from Bengaluru and distributing it in Chennai.A special police team travelled to Pune. With the assistance of Satara police, Shanmugam was arrested from Pune on June 24. After obtaining a transit order from a magistrate in Satara, police brought him to Chennai on Friday. He was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody on Saturday.
