Prayagraj: With the monsoon yet to arrive, sultry conditions persisted in Prayagraj on Saturday as the city once again recorded the highest temperature in Uttar Pradesh, jointly with Agra. The maximum temperature soared to 43.2 degrees Celsius, 6.9 degrees above normal, while the minimum settled at 28.8 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees above average, resulting in another uncomfortably warm night.High humidity levels, ranging between 42% and 69%, combined with the intense heat to create oppressive conditions. Air coolers and fans proved ineffective due to the moisture in the air, making the heat feel even more severe. The humid weather also pushed up power demand, causing frequent power trips and low-voltage issues in several areas.Though there was intermittent cloud cover, it brought no relief. Moisture-laden easterly winds and strong sunshine kept the heat index elevated, making outdoor activities especially difficult during the afternoon.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), such conditions are expected to continue for the next two to three days, as the southwest monsoon is yet to reach the region. The monsoon’s advance has slowed and is likely to cover Prayagraj shortly.Once it arrives, widespread rainfall is expected to lower temperatures and provide much-needed relief from the prolonged spell of heat and humidity.
