Mumbai: A police constable was verbally abused and threatened by a man when he went to break up a fight between two people in Jogeshwari East. Meghwadi Police registered an FIR and are looking for the accused.The incident occurred on June 26. Police personnel were on bandobast for Moharram near Idgah Maidan and Jhoola Maidan. Constable Amol Pawar, 40, noticed a large crowd gather near Idgah Masjid and went over to check. He found a man dressed in a black shirt badly assaulting another individual with a trouser belt. The victim was subsequently identified as Abdul Malil Shaikh and the attacker as Shamshad Fazlu Shaikh.Pawar tried to break up the fight. At this, Shamshad turned his attention towards Pawar and began verbally abusing him. He also threatened Pawar who, noticing the swelling crowd, immediately called in for reinforcements. When additional policemen arrived, Shamshad fled. Police made inquiries with Abdul Malil and registered an FIR against Shamshad for abusing and threatening Pawar.
