Vadodara: Maharaja Sayajirao University’s Faculty of Commerce will enforce a strict 75% attendance rule from the new academic year, as it prepares to roll out regular classes for first-year BCom students after a four-day orientation programme next week.The orientation for new students will take place on July 2, 3, 4 and 6. Students must download the PDF listing their names, serial numbers and allotted buildings, and report according to the schedule uploaded on the university website and faculty’s social media platforms.The faculty has completed admissions for the 2026-27 academic year. More than 11,000 applications were received. Of these, 10,800 candidates registered for the entrance test and 9,386 took it. The faculty granted around 7,000 admissions.Dean Prof Pragnesh Shah said 95% of seats went to students from Vadodara, while 5% were filled by applicants from outside the region.The admission registration process ran from May 2 to May 28. The faculty conducted a mock test on May 23 and held the entrance exam on May 26.Officials said the faculty helped 3,900 students and parents with entrance-related queries, GCAS number generation, registration and other processes. More than 10 helpline numbers operated during the mock and main exams.Admissions were completed in four rounds, with document verification and counselling spread over 16 days. Over 200 teaching staff and more than 50 non-teaching employees were deployed to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
