Rajesh Kumar Pandey | TNNDumka: The Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU), Dumka, on Saturday accorded a traditional welcome to hundreds of padayatris heading to Bhognadih in Sahibganj to pay tribute to Santhal Hul heroes Sidho, Kanho, Chand, Bhairav and their sisters Phulo and Jhano on June 30.The reception at the university’s main gate, led by vice-chancellor Prof Kunul Kandir, also marked the formal start of SKMU’s Hul Diwas programme.The marchers, under the banner of Sidho-Kanho Gota Bharat Hul Baisi, were welcomed with the traditional ‘Lota-Pani’ ritual and offered floral tributes at the campus statue of Sidho and Kanho. They were later honoured with turbans, caps and ceremonial shawls. The event began with the university anthem and the national song.In her address, Prof Kandir said Hul was not merely a rebellion but a symbol of organised resistance against injustice, exploitation and oppression.
