Patna: A 55-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death, while his wife and son sustained critical injuries, after an old land dispute turned violent at Ismailpur village under the Sadar police station in Vaishali district early Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Amod Ram, son of late Lagan Ram. His wife, Indu Devi (50), and son, Vikas Kumar (28), were also injured in the attack. While Vikas is undergoing treatment at Hajipur sadar hospital, Indu was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after her condition turned critical.Preliminary investigation suggests that an argument over cutting a banana tree on Friday night escalated into the attack. Family members alleged that Chandan, along with his father Mahavir Ram and other relatives, arrived at Amod’s house armed with a sword and a sharp sickle and assaulted the family.Neighbours rushed the injured to the Sadar hospital, where doctors declared Amod dead during treatment. Following the incident, the victim’s family took the body back to the village and staged a road blockade, demanding immediate arrest of the accused.Police later reached the spot and pacified the family, urging them to cooperate with the legal process.Vaishali superintendent of police Shubhank Mishra visited the spot and directed officers to intensify the probe. “Raids are being conducted to arrest the accused, who are on the run,” he said.Officials said the two families had been locked in a land dispute for years, with past instances of violence as well. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
