Bhubaneswar: The sensational jailbreak by two murder accused from Choudwar circle jail in Cuttack in Oct 2025 is back in focus, with BJP Rajya Sabha member Sujeet Kumar filing a police complaint against two senior prison officials, alleging a conspiracy in the escape.According to Kumar’s complaint, a top officer of the state prisons directorate and another senior official of the Choudwar jail, allegedly facilitated the escape of two undertrials, Madhukant Rana and Raja Sahani, and they subsequently, suppressed facts, forged documents, and tampered with official records.“We received the MP’s complaint dated June 24 online on Thursday. Since a case was already registered at Choudwar police station in connection with the jailbreak, we are examining whether to file a fresh case or tag it with the earlier one,” a senior police officer said. No FIR has so far been registered on the MP’s complaint.Rana and Sahani of Bihar were lodged in Choudwar’s high‑security cells for allegedly murdering two men during a jewellery shop robbery attempt in Jajpur district in Jan 2025. Initially held in Jajpur district jail, they were later shifted to Choudwar for enhanced security. On Oct 3, 2025, amid Dussehra festivities inside the prison, the duo staged a daring escape from what is considered the state’s most fortified jail. Rana was recaptured in Feb and Sahani in April this year. Both are currently in judicial custody.
