AHMEDABAD: A 25-year-old man from Surendranagar was rescued after he climbed the railing of Dadhichi Bridge on Friday afternoon and allegedly tried to jump into the river. He was reportedly distressed after his wife eloped with another man.Congress MLA from Jamalpur, Imran Khedawala, was among the bystanders who persuaded the man to get back to safety.Khedawala said he was crossing the bridge when he noticed a crowd around a man standing on the railing. He immediately stopped his vehicle, while his security guard and locals rushed towards the man to rescue him.According to Khedawala, the man got married about three months ago. And last week, his wife allegedly eloped with another man, leaving him distressed. The man, originally from Surendranagar, was living in Madhavpura area of Ahmedabad.The MLA said he and several bystanders spent several minutes talking to the man, persuading him not to take an extreme step. After repeated assurances and counselling, he agreed to climb back to safety. He was later handed over to the cops for counselling and assistance.Khedawala said the youth appeared emotionally disturbed over the recent developments in his personal life. A video of the rescue circulating on social media showed locals and the MLA persuading the man to step back from the ledge.
