Tarn Taran: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) posted as in-charge of a police outpost in Tarn Taran died by suicide after allegedly shooting himself with his service pistol at his quarters Thursday late night following his checkpoint duty.Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Surendra Lamba said ASI Amarjit Singh was posted at Kairon police outpost for about four months. He had dinner with his colleagues before retiring to his quarters in the police chowki. Soon after hearing a gunshot, police personnel reached the spot and found Amarjit Singh lying in a pool of blood, with his pistol nearby. While sources said he was upset over shortage of staff and delay in his transfer, police hinted at personal issues. Lamba said police were investigating the case from all angles. The incident comes days after ASI Gurmeet Singh, deployed at the Patti court complex, allegedly shot himself. He later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
