Prayagraj: Former Union minister, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, on Friday asserted that the alleged Ram Temple fund irregularity case should be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law, maintaining that the BJP would not shield anyone found guilty of misusing money donated by devotees.“BJP has always worked in accordance with the ideals of Lord Ram. The money donated for Lord Ram belongs to the deity and should be utilised only for the temple and devotees. If anyone has misappropriated those funds, the law will punish the guilty and the BJP will not interfere in the legal process,” he said.Naqvi made the remarks while visiting his ancestral village, Bhandari, on Muharram.Taking a swipe at the opposition, he alleged that parties that once questioned the existence of Lord Ram were now trying to derive political mileage from the temple issue.“Those who once called Lord Ram imaginary have suddenly become Ram devotees and are now attempting to politicise temple donations,” he remarked. On the political situation in UP, Naqvi said politics in the country became centred around Prime Minister Narendra Modi.“On one side is faith in Modi and on the other is an obsession with opposing Modi,” he said. Referring to the BJP’s prospects in the 2027 Assembly elections, he claimed the “MY (Modi-Yogi) factor” represented inclusive empowerment and all-round development and would sweep away what he described as “feudal forces” in the state. The senior BJP neta also launched a sharp attack on the Congress over its recent “students’ interaction” programme, alleging it was an attempt to divert attention from the anniversary of the Emergency. He accused the Congress of suppressing students and youth during the Emergency and said the party should apologise for “assault on democracy” instead of organising symbolic outreach programmes.Naqvi further said: “Now there is a competition between the Congress and ‘cockroaches’ to become imaginary revolutionaries, but both are engaged in spreading falsehoods and misleading the public through baseless propaganda.”He further alleged that the Congress continued to pose a threat to constitutional values despite its declining political fortunes. He claimed BJP-led govt under Prime Minister Modi had strengthened constitutional democracy, ensured good governance and promoted inclusive development, making India a stronger global force.During his visit, Naqvi also offered prayers for peace, communal harmony and the well-being of the people while participating in the Muharram observances in his ancestral village.
