Berhampur: Forest officials and rescuers were delighted as hatchlings emerged from eight out of 11 cobra eggs, which were found in Bholasingi village in Ganjam district’s Chikiti block about a month ago. “All the hatchlings were released into their natural habitat on Thursday afternoon after they were found to be healthy,” said Sunny Khokhar, divisional forest officer (DFO), Berhampur, on Friday.After carefully rescuing the eggs from an under-construction house in the village on May 28, the snake rescuers handed over all 11 eggs to the forest officials. The eggs were kept safely while the rescuers and forest officials monitored their condition. “We are very much delighted as most hatched successfully,” said Swadhin Kumar Sahu, the snake rescuer.The DFO said the hatchlings emerged naturally without interference from any artificial process. After being found, the eggs were kept safe and closely monitored for their condition. The hatchlings were released into the natural habitat safely without interference from any veterinary service.Ram Chandra Sahu, the snake rescuer who found the eggs, said he rescued two snakes — which might be a male and a female — without damage to any eggs. The five-and-a-half-foot-long and a four-and-a-half-foot-long snake were released into the natural habitats.Sahu rescued 25 cobra hatchlings from a mushroom farmhouse in Chikiti Pentho on Thursday. All the hatchlings were released into their natural habitat by the forest officials. A 6-foot-long cobra, which was rescued from the same farm some hours after the rescue of the hatchlings, was also released in the forest area, he said.
