Giridih: A three-month-old baby escaped unhurt while eight others were injured when a motorcycle collided head-on with an autorickshaw carrying passengers returning from a wedding ceremony near a petrol pump at Gamhariyatand in Giridih district on Friday.Seven of the injured were travelling in the auto, while the other is the motorcyclist, Yamuna Das.The baby’s mother, Rinki Devi, sustained a hand injury while shielding the boy during the impact. Priyanshu Kumar, 4, and 63-year-old Sahdev Hajam, suffered critical injuries and were referred to a higher medical centre. Names of the remaining injured person could not be ascertained.Police said the accident occurred when the motorcycle heading towards Khijuri rammed into the auto. The impact overturned the vehicle, trapping passengers.Locals rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Two critically injured victims were taken to hospital in the partially damaged auto, while others were shifted in private vehicles arranged by residents. Doctors administered first aid before referring the critically injured for advanced treatment.Mukhiya Janki Yadav said, “The auto was carrying villagers from Khatpok who were returning from a wedding at Belkushi Mahadev Temple.”Tisri police have started investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
