Margao: Aam Aadmi Party functionaries and residents of Margao and Navelim staged a protest outside the Margao Power House on Thursday, demanding a complete waiver of inflated electricity bills and giving govt an ultimatum until Monday to issue an official order or face an indefinite sit-in.The protest was led by AAP Organisational Secretary Prashant Naik and South Goa Youth Wing President Neash Coutinho.Naik said that after meeting officials at the Power House, AAP was told that the inflated bills would merely be revised or adjusted in future billing cycles, a proposal the party flatly rejected. “People do not want revised bills. They want a complete waiver of all high electricity bills,” he told reporters, adding that AAP has consistently demanded that all bills issued between Jan and June 15 be officially nullified through a govt order.Naik alleged that the BJP govt had collected Rs 43 crore from Goans through electricity penalties.AAP warned that if an official waiver order is not issued by Monday, people would launch an indefinite sit-in protest outside the electricity department until consumers receive complete relief.
