Nagpur: NTPC Mouda has achieved a key milestone in its renewable energy expansion programme with the commencement of solar panel installation for its 1.4MW ground-mounted solar power plant. The first solar panels were installed on Wednesday following the successful completion of the project’s superstructure works. The project is being developed as part of NTPC’s commitment to sustainable development and aligns with the Centre’s objective of increasing the share of green energy in the country’s overall power generation setup. The solar panel installation event was attended by executive director Joseph Bastian, general manager (operations and maintenance) SC Das, senior NTPC officials and representatives of the Kirloskar team involved in the project.Officials said the solar power plant will strengthen NTPC Mouda’s renewable energy portfolio and contribute to the station’s efforts to promote environmentally sustainable power generation. The project is expected to help reduce dependence on conventional energy sources while supporting cleaner and greener energy production.NTPC officials said that the start of solar panel installation represents a significant step towards the timely commissioning of the solar plant. Once operational, the facility is expected to play a role in advancing NTPC’s broader clean energy goals and supporting India’s transition towards a more sustainable energy future.NTPC has been steadily expanding its renewable energy capacity across the country as part of its long-term strategy to diversify its energy mix and contribute to national climate and sustainability targets. The Mouda solar project is among the initiatives aimed at enhancing the use of renewable energy within the company’s operations.Upon commissioning of the solar plant, NTPC Mouda Township is set to become a Net Zero Energy Township, meeting its annual energy consumption requirements through clean and renewable energy generation. Earlier, the township had already achieved the distinction of becoming a Net Zero Water Township through various water conservation and water management initiatives. The solar power plant is expected to generate approximately 2.7 million units of clean electricity annually, significantly reducing dependence on conventional sources of energy. The renewable energy generated will help avoid nearly 2,000 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions every year, thereby contributing to climate change mitigation and the creation of a sustainable environment. The project is being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs5.80 crore and reflects NTPC’s continued focus on integrating renewable energy solutions into its operations. The initiative is aligned with the Government of India’s vision of promoting clean energy and advancing the nation’s transition towards a low-carbon economy.
