COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore corporation has intensified its dengue prevention drive and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on a building owner after mosquito breeding sources were detected during a field inspection in the East zone.Dengue-spreading Aedes mosquitoes breed in clean stagnant water found in uncovered drums, discarded tyres, coconut shells and others. Residents have repeatedly been advised to keep water storage containers covered, remove unused items that can collect rainwater and ensure that water does not stagnate in and around buildings.During an inspection conducted by the municipal health team in Maharaja Extension and Nehru Nagar in ward 8 on Wednesday, officials found extensive mosquito breeding in a building. Immediate cleaning measures were undertaken, and the owner was fined Rs 50,000.According to officials, the owner was issued a prior notice for the same in April. Since he failed to rectify it, a fine was imposed during the recent inspection.In a release, corporation commissioner Katta Ravi Teja has urged residents to cooperate with civic authorities, maintain clean surroundings and actively participate in dengue prevention efforts to curb the spread of the disease in the city.
